BATL Axe Throwing is gearing up to open our 14th location later this month in the Valley of the Sun – Scottsdale, Arizona. We’re excited to make the state of Arizona our new home, and can’t wait to join forces with everyone in our community.
BATL AXE THROWING
Back in 2006, a group of friends were bored at a cottage outside of Toronto and decided to throw an axe at a stump. Little did they know that this innocent way to pass the time would soon evolve into the creation of a worldwide sport.
BATL Axe Throwing was founded in 2006 in a Toronto backyard, making us the first to pioneer the sport of urban axe throwing. Since then, we have expanded to 18 locations in North America including Toronto, London, Niagara Falls, Calgary, Ottawa, and many more (with even more on the way) – bringing axe throwing to countless guests. Last year, BATL started its expansion into the USA with locations in Nashville, Tennessee; Chicago, Illinois; Novi, Michigan; and finally our newest venue in Scottsdale, Arizona! Scottsdale may have a reputation as a travel destination, but it’s also a city brimming with a vibrant community, arts, and much more. It’s a city that promises abundant amenities, from vibrant outdoor activities and sports to a thriving downtown and waterfront. The city of over 220,000 inhabitants is known for the excellent quality of life mixed with tourist appeal.
With a buzzing arts and culture scene, many schools that are ranked top in the state, and endless potential for outdoor activity, it’s no wonder that the younger demographic are taking Scottsdale by storm. BATL Scottsdale is located in the downtown area – known as Old Town Scottsdale – which is one of the most unique urban downtown centres in the American Southwest. Its pedestrian-friendly streets are home to world-class art galleries, museums, restaurants and retail shops. When the sun goes down, the area really shines – with world-class bars, restaurants, and nightlife options.

PLAN A VISIT TO BATL SCOTTSDALE
At BATL Scottsdale, we stand by the belief that throwing an epic party should be fun, simple, and affordable. Private event packages include 1- 2.5 hours of throwing depending on your group size, flexible food options and private space to fit your party’s needs. Trophies and streetwear are available as add-ons for an even more personal touch. Things begin with practice and instruction (no experience necessary!) from BATL’s expert coaches before starting a round robin and group playoff tournament. Private events cost $35.99 – $42.99 + tax per person and are perfectly suited to adult birthday parties, corporate team building events, and bachelor/bachelorette parties.
Looking for a more casual approach to axe throwing? BATL Axe Throwing offers axe throwing on a walk-in basis at designated times each week. Our coaches will be on hand to instruct those who have never thrown an axe before, and offer tips on technique for more experienced throwers looking to sharpen their skills. Similar to public skating, skiing or swimming – guests throw in a common area with other participants, and may need to make allowance for shared space based on friendly guidance from your BATL coach.
For the die-hards, our leagues are the perfect excuse to get together with friends, make a few new ones and enjoy a little competition. With no experience necessary you’ll compete individually while receiving tips from our friendly coaches – and plenty of time to hang out between throwing. Our calendar culminates in the National Axe Throwing Championship, with qualifying players competing against the best throwers globally for the Wilson Cup and $7500 in prize money.
HEAD OUT TO THE GOLF COURSE
It’s no secret that Arizona has some of the best golf courses in the country. Combine that with wintertime in Scottsdale, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a great time. Troon North is a “must play” – a fun and challenging course surrounded by beautiful mountains. Camelback Golf Club, Grayhawk Golf Club, and McCormick Ranch Golf Club are also notable courses. Whether you’re considered a rookie or a pro, a game of golf should definitely be on your list of things to do this winter in Scottsdale.
HITCH A RIDE IN A HOT AIR BALLOON
There’s probably no better way to explore the beautiful sights of Scottsdale than by hot air balloon. The crisp, winter air and breathtaking views make this winter activity a real treat. There is plenty of hot air balloon tour companies to choose from, like Hot Air Expeditions or Rainbow Ryders Hot Air Balloon Company. So take your pick, and get ready to soar.
GO TO A HOCKEY GAME
Nothing screams winter like hockey – the other Canadian pastime (second to axe throwing, of course). Head out to see an Arizona Coyotes game, located in Glendale a mere 30 minutes from BATL Scottsdale. Cheer on your favourite bruisers and goal scorers on the ice, all the while being surrounded by a desert.
