The Home of Axe Throwing

Since Our Backyard Beginnings

We’re BATL, the original Backyard Axe Throwing League.  Our mission is to show people the power of being good to each other, using the axe as a tool to build community.  We’re immensely proud to have been the first organization in the world to offer an urban venue to experience the thrill of indoor axe throwing in leagues, walk-ins, group parties and team building.

BATL was founded in the backyard of CEO Matt Wilson in 2006.  What started as a personal passion sparked by a camping trip soon spread through word of mouth in Toronto, and today nearly 2 million people have experienced the thrill of throwing axes at our locations.

The word ‘community’ is used a lot online, but BATL is a community in the most traditional sense of the word.  BATL’s about being good to each other. Our leagues are home to the most amazing, talented and passionate people that you’ll ever have the pleasure to meet.  Thanks to everyone in the BATL Family who’s played a part in making BATL possible.

As the sport of axe throwing has grown, the Backyard Axe Throwing League has played a lead role as a founding member of the International Axe Throwing Federation (IATF), together with other of the most premier urban axe throwing organizations worldwide since its inception in 2016.
