BATL Axe Throwing in the Community

At BATL Axe Throwing, we’re always looking for new ways to make a positive impact on the communities surrounding our venues.

Since 2006 we’ve hosted dozens of fundraising events and donated our services to a number of local charities and non-profit organizations such as schools, hospitals and other special causes.

With 18 locations in North America (including Toronto, Niagara Falls, London, Kitchener, Pickering, Ottawa, Calgary, Nashville, Chicago, and Detroit (Novi)) we have a unique opportunity to make a real difference in all the communities that we are part of, and we’re always searching for more ways to spread the love.

BATL Axe Throwing prides itself in being a strong social hub and positive corporate citizen in all communities in which we operate.

Each location works directly with local charities on a monthly basis to support axe throwing fundraising activities.

ONGOING SUPPORT FOR THE RED DOOR FAMILY SHELTER

Back in February of 2017, the BATL Axe Throwing took part in and hosted the inaugural National Axe Throwing Championship (NATC) put on by the National Axe Throwing Federation (NATF). Ahead of the NATC Finals, the NATF had sanctioned axe throwing venues from across North America compete in a day-long competition, with all proceeds going to The Red Door Family Shelter. After all, was said and done we raised over $4000 for the cause – which was truly amazing, but we knew we could do better. For the second and final instalment of the NATC (again with all proceeds going to the Red Door Family Shelter), we managed to raise nearly $10,000. As usual, we’re excited to try and beat that again next year.

The Red Door Family Shelter is a non-profit that features a dedicated and caring staff team addresses the particular needs of families in crisis. The services provided reduce the impact of homelessness by providing safe and supportive shelter to hundreds of families each year. It helps keep families together by providing services for the whole family, and assists each family in establishing a stable life beyond the shelter.

LOCAL SUPPORT IN THE KITCHENER-WATERLOO REGION

Going 3 years strong, last month BATL Kitchener hosted their annual instalment of Axe The Stigma. Axe The Stigma raises money in support of Lutherwood Child & Family Foundation and The Coping Centre – which offers mental health support. We have also hosted events for Make A Wish CanadaCanadian Cancer Society, and many more.

THE UNITED WAY & BATL OTTAWA

Back in 2017, BATL Ottawa location hosted a charity tournament in support of those who lost their homes (and more) in a string of fires in the Vanier area of the Capital Region. We helped raise thousands of dollars for people in the Vanier community. BATL Ottawa has also played host to fundraisers for The United Way â€“ raising money for mental health awareness, Youth Ottawa, and many more.

MORE LOCAL SUPPORT ACROSS NORTH AMERICA

We get asked a lot about what we do with our used axe throwing target boards, and we’re always looking for ways to put them to good use. Want an example? Back in 2015, BATL Pickering started donating its target used boards from leagues and private events to Story Book Farm Primate Sanctuary to help keep monkeys warm in the winter. SBFPS is currently home to 20 monkeys who come for peace and solace from a variety of backgrounds, some of them with stories difficult even to share, let alone survive. While it is one of the more unique charities we have supported, it’s just the tip of the iceberg as far as charitable events out of BATL Pickering. We’ve also run tournaments for The Salvation Army, minor league hockey and baseball teams, and MS Canada (just to name a few).

It’s been 3 years since the Backyard Axe Throwing League first opened in Calgary â€“ at the time, our first venue located outside of Ontario. We thought the mountain lifestyle seemed like an obvious fit for axe throwing, and we were right! Over the past 2 years, BATL Calgary has hosted people from all over Western Canada and taught them the ways of our sport, and it’s been a complete success. On top of that, BATL Calgary is constantly engaging with our community, partnering up with local charities, sports teams, and everything in between. BATL has played host to events in support of the Calgary Hitmen Community Caring ProgramCalgary Public LibraryCalgary Girls Choir, and many more.
