The Home of Axe Throwing
BATL was created by our CEO Matt Wilson in his 2006 backyard. What started as a personal passion sparked by a camping trip soon spread through word of mouth in Toronto, and today over 1 million people have experienced the excitement of throwing axes at one of our locations, including our downtown Hamilton facility beside Jackson Square.

At the Backyard Axe Throwing League, we believe that throwing an epic party in the City of Hamilton should be fun AND simple. That’s why our axe throwing event packages include 1 – 2.5 hours of throwing depending on your group size, flexible food options and private space to fit your party’s unique needs. Trophies and clothing are available as add-ons for an even more memorable touch.
Axe Throwing Facilities
The Backyard Axe Throwing League provides top-rated facilities for people of all experience levels to compete and have fun, including our location in Hamilton that has 10 targets. Our axe throwing ‘arenas’ are similar to a cross between a batting cage and bowling alley, with private space for groups of any size, and a music selection that makes every visit one to remember.
Axe Throwing Format
For both residents and visitors to Hamilton and the Halton Region, our intimate axe throwing events and parties begin with practice and instruction (no previous experience necessary!) from BATL’s expert coaches before starting a round robin and group playoff tournament.

Our outdoor axe throwing packages are accessible for both full and half-day bookings, are fully insured and equipped throughout southern Ontario. Our team of expert coaches can offer a customized axe throwing activation based on your specific group needs to make your next event one of the most terrific memories of the year for everyone who participates.

Our weekly axe throwing leagues are a great excuse to get together with your family and friends, make a few new ones and experience a little competition. With no previous experience necessary you’ll compete individually while receiving advice from our friendly BATL Hamilton expert coaches – and tons of time to hang out between throwing.
