The task to plan a bachelor party that everyone will enjoy can be daunting and usually falls on the shoulders of the best man.
A guy’s trip to Vegas gets expensive (and it’s probably a good idea to avoid recreating scenes from The Hangover anyway). Going to a strip joint is just so cliché. And bowling, paintball, and escape rooms have already been done.
So what’s something that the entire group – a bunch of groomsmen who may or may not really know each other – will be into no matter their age, skill or fitness level? Axe throwing! It hits all the targets and then some.

From groups of 2 to over 100, planning a bachelor party at BATL, the Backyard Axe Throwing League is a breeze and we pinky swear to help make your stag night or bachelor party unforgettable for you and your half of the wedding party.
WHY SHOULD YOU THROW YOUR BACHELOR PARTY AT BATL?
For starters, we’re the OG of indoor axe throwing. And you know how we got our start? A bunch of guys were hanging out looking for something fun to do. And isn’t that exactly what a bachelor party should accomplish? Needless to say, we’ve been hosting kick-ass axe throwing bachelor and stag parties across North America since 2006. And we’ve been perfecting the experience ever since we started it.
Besides the thrill of the actual axe throwing (and credit you can take for coming up with such a unique stag party idea), our coaches and staff are top-notch humans. Some of them may even end up on the wedding invite list before your bachelor party is over. Hey, these things happen. When you put down your axe, you can pick up a drink, and some food, too. Can you say craft beer and food that’s inspired by the city you’re in? Good. Because that’s what you and your buds are likely to get.
WE MAKE BACHELOR PARTY PLANNING EASY!
Whether you’re planning a stag do for your best bud or helping to arrange your own celebration before getting hitched, we’ve got you covered. After all, we want you to be able to relax and enjoy the bachelor party too. You won’t need to manage anything – we’ll take care of setting up and running tournaments, scoring and everything. And if you need extra time to set up any party favours in your private axe throwing area before your bachelor party, just let us know in advance and we’ll accommodate wherever possible.
EXPECT ENTERTAINMENT WITH AN EDGE AT AN AXE THROWING BACHELOR PARTY
Events start with coaching and practice for everyone in your group, led by our expert coaches in your private axe throwing area. Once you and the boys have sharpened your skills, we’ll kick off a round-robin tournament followed by a final champion round to award an axe-throwing winner. And there’s only one rule: you must let the groom’s team win. Just kidding! You can be as competitive as you want, and there are a few actual rules that you’ll need to follow, but our coaches will fill you in on all that. Bachelor parties at the Backyard Axe Throwing League last roughly 1.5 hours and must be booked in advance.
CROWN THE GROOM
If you want to make your bachelor party extra kick-ass – and memorable – you can get some trophies and BATL merchandise. It’ll be a happily ever after reminder of the good times you and the groomsmen had. And if you’re feeling fancy, you can even add some high-class shenanigans by having one of our expert coaches saber a bottle of champagne with an axe. It’s pretty freaking cool to watch and a champagne toast is a perfect way to celebrate the groom.
NO HANGRY GROOMSMEN HERE. FOOD & DRINK OPTIONS FOR YOUR AXE THROWING BACHELOR PARTY
Our locations have licensed bars. We’ll pause for applause. We know that most bachelor parties include a toast or two to the groom and the future he is about to embark upon. We offer a selection of local beers, wine, and coolers so you can quench your thirst while you celebrate. And compete with the wedding party.
Most of our locations are also stocked with food, with unique local offerings at some locations too. And if you want to bring in your own food, please do! For a plating fee of $3.00 per person, you are welcome to bring food for you and your bachelor party guests or have it delivered, as long as it is prepared off-site.
Outside desserts such as cakes, pies, and cupcakes are exempt from plating fee charges. So go ahead – celebrate the upcoming nuptials and celebrate your sweet tooth at the same time!

AXE THROWING IS FOR THE GUYS
Beers, your buddies, and axes? Yep, it’s an epic bachelor party idea that the groom will not soon forget. But before you help him say goodbye to bachelorhood forever, we’ve devised a handy guide to help you out with your axe throwing game so you can have an edge on the competition. Check out these tips from our resident axe gurus:
BASICS / YOUR AXE THROWING STANCE
It’s always good to start with the basics. These tips will help you get ready to throw your axe:
- It’s important to stand with your non-dominant foot forward, in order to create balance with your dominant leg.
- When you’re throwing, it’s important to remember two things: lean in, and follow through.
- Keep your arms straight and your eyes level with the target on the board. This will keep you focused, and help you with aiming.
HOW TO AIM YOUR AXE
Now that you’ve got your stance, the next step is to aim your axe. These are some things to keep in mind:
- Keep your eyes on the target – look directly at where you want the axe to go, and throw!
- Aiming is all muscle memory, so try to replicate your motions every time you have a successful throw.
Two-Handed Throwing Technique: This is the standard technique that we’ve been teaching our guests for the last 14 years. Keep these things in mind when throwing with two hands:
- Place your dominant hand at the bottom of the axe.
- Wrap your other hand around your dominant hand.
- Keep your thumbs off the back of your axe.
- Bring the axe all the way back.
- Lean in all the way forward while releasing your axe.
One-Handed Throwing Technique: We always recommend starting with two hands, but there is a certain allure to the one-handed throw. Keep these things in mind when throwing with one hand:
- Keep your thumb off the back of the axe.
- Keep your elbow in.
- Don’t bring your arm across your body when releasing (like a baseball pitcher).
- Less is more. You don’t have to throw your hardest.
If you keep these things in mind, you’ll be hitting bullseyes in no time. Now that you have a grasp of the basics of axe throwing, you just need to figure out what date works best to throw your bachelor party at Backyard Axe Throwing League.
THE BIG AXE
One more thing – the big axe. It’s one of the most exciting parts of axe throwing, but can also be one of the most daunting. But really, it’s just like throwing a hatchet. So if you’re stepping up to throw the big axe, here are some tips to help you master it:
- Always use both hands on the axe, stacked on the handle like you’re holding a baseball bat with your dominant hand on top.
- The big axe takes longer to rotate – you’ll need to stand back five feet from the hatchet throwing line.
- It’s important to bring the axe all the way back, to generate more power due to the weight.
- Aim high!
Adjusting Your Throw: There’s always a learning curve when learning a new skill. It’s helpful to identify issues and correct your throw as you learn. These are some possible adjustments you can make:
- Stand further or closer to adjust axe rotation issues.
- Move your stance from left to right to compensate for accuracy.
- Adjusting your power levels to improve your control.
BATL offers many ways to get involved with axe throwing, suited to any and every event, including bachelor parties.
