What we are doing to make throwing safe.

The majority of our venues are now back up and running! Some BATL locations remain temporarily closed until we get the OK from the appropriate local authorities. We’ll let you know when other locations are scheduled to reopen as we re-assess!

Hours and Availability

When are you open?

BATL is open 7 days a week, from 11am – 11pm, by appointment only. You can contact your nearest venue, or view online booking calendars for local availability. Please note that only available times are displayed, however, you’re welcome to call us to confirm last-minute availability with 3-days advance notice, or to get on the waitlist as cancellations can occur.

BATL is an event-based business and as such we don't have regularly scheduled retail hours.

How do I book axe throwing?

Booking is easy! Just select your BATL location from our booking page.

Available times are displayed, so if a calendar date is greyed out, then it’s likely fully booked or closed for a holiday. If a calendar date shows a red dot then please call us directly. You can also call us to confirm last minute availability with 3-days advance notice, or to get on the waitlist as cancellations can occur.

What if the axe throwing time I want is already booked?

While rare, cancellations do occur. Please let us know your preferred date(s), venue, group size, and the best way to get a hold of you quickly.

How Does Axe Throwing Work?

Do I need to book in advance?

Our 1.5-hour Tournament Style BATL Premium event must be booked in advance online, by contacting our Event Planners at 1-844-228-5550 or by sending us an email to book@batlgrounds.com.

Walk-in BATL Casual events are available without booking in advance during specific scheduled hours. You're welcome to walk in for a 1-hour BATL Casual Thursday-Sunday during our operating hours. Please check the venues operating hours before arriving.

What's the format, how long does it last?

BATL Premium is a private axe throwing event and it’s great for adult birthday parties, corporate team building functions, bachelor/bachelorette parties, and much more. Private events are booked in advance for groups of 2+ people and include your own private area as well as 1.5 hours of axe throwing, a dedicated coach, tournaments and digital scoring, and more chances to throw than if you choose BATL Casual.

BATL Casual or walk-ins are available without a reservation during specific scheduled hours. During these hours, you will be using shared lanes with other guests and there are no structured tournaments.

Both offerings include practice and instruction (no experience necessary!) from BATL’s expert coaches.

What's the difference between BATL Premium and BATL Casual (walk-in)?

BATL Premium axe throwing events last approximately 1.5 hours (based on group size), and are hosted by dedicated BATL coaches in a private throwing area. Things begin with practice and instruction from our dedicated coaches before starting a group round-robin and playoff tournament to crown a champion.

Plus you can get food and drinks, including bar
service delivered right to your lane. BATL Premium
events must be booked in advance.

How much space will my group have?

It depends on the size of your group. Every BATL venue divides spaces into standalone sets of 4 targets. We refer to these spaces as an "arena."

One arena can accommodate up to 24 people.

For groups of 6 to 12, you will get 2 dedicated targets (or a "half arena"). While another group of 6-12 may be next to you, the targets, your coach, and the space on your side of the arena are yours.

For groups larger than 24, we simply set aside additional arenas and coaches to expand the tournament to multiple spaces. Please contact us to book groups larger than 24 participants.

How many people can I bring?

For BATL Premium private axe throwing events, we can host groups from 2 to over 150 people! Just let us know if your party will be less than 6, less than 13, or more than 24 people so that we can adjust the space and staff accordingly.

We also offer public events for smaller groups of 2-5 people that can be booked online. Same-day bookings for smaller groups are coming soon!

Spectators are always welcome at BATL locations for both leagues and private events and are only charged a fee if they decide to throw an axe.

Can I throw an axe on my own? Or with a date?

Of course! Our standard BATL Premium axe throwing offers the option to throw in groups of 2 or more. If it’s just you and a date, you might share your axe throwing lanes with other guests – it’ll be the same great premium experience with the chance to make new friends too!

If you want to come on your own, BATL Casual (Walk-ins) offers informal axe throwing practice and instruction at an hourly rate of $22.22+tax per person - no reservation required.

Managing a Booking

What if my group size changes?

You’re welcome to bring more or fewer guests than selected when booking. However, if your group size goes below or over your group size's minimum or maximum numbers, then please tell us in advance so we can prepare adequate staffing and space.

Groups that exceed or drop their group minimum/maximum without notice will be subject to base charges and/or space limitations associated with their original booking.

No further notice is needed for group size fluctuations between 6 – 12 or 13 – 24 people.

What if I need to cancel or change my event date?

We have a 1-week cancellation policy. If you provide at least seven days notice ahead of your scheduled event then your deposit will be refunded. We can also change your event date provided that we receive 1 week’s notice and there’s availability on your requested day.

Can we arrive early to set up?

Yes! Please arrive 20-30 minutes prior to your scheduled event time to take care of any set-up requirements. You will have free access to your throwing area provided it’s not in use. If you need to drop off any material earlier than this, however, please contact us to make special arrangements, and we’ll do whatever we can to help out.

While we have some flexibility with handling latecomers, we strongly encourage parties to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to fill out waivers and get situated comfortably at their arena(s). Due to scheduling restrictions, events can’t be extended.

Payment

How does payment work?

We accept cash, debit cards as well as all major credit cards, including Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. All US locations also accept Discover.

We don’t allow guests to pay in full before events, as the final amount payable will depend on the total number of guests in attendance.

How much does it cost?

BATL Premium axe throwing events at all locations (except Calgary) cost $35.99+tax per person on Tuesdays and $40.99+tax per person every other day of the week. At our Calgary location, the cost is $37.99+tax per person on Tuesdays and $42.99+tax per person every other day of the week. Pricing is standard regardless of group size. Spectators not participating will not be charged.

With BATL Premium, you get lanes, coaching, a full tournament, and more. When booking, we require a $100 deposit that can go toward the final cost of the event, or can be refunded the day of your event.

For our scheduled walk-in sessions, pricing is $22.22+tax per hour/per person. These times are open to the public, and your space will be shared with others. We always have a coach on hand to show you the ropes.

How does the event deposit work?

To book an event with us you are required to put down a deposit. The deposit is used to secure your event with us and can be used towards the cost of the event or refunded back to your card once your event begins.

Your deposit will remain fully refundable up to 7 days before your scheduled event date. 

Food & Beverage

Do you have food & drinks available for purchase?

Absolutely! Our locations offer a licensed bar and kitchen service with a menu of delicious, shareable items served directly to your throwing lanes, as well as a small concession stand with snacks and cold drinks available for purchase.

North Carolina Locations: 2-weeks notice is required when placing a food order

Houston Heights: Please note that 24 hours notice is required when placing an order for Mellow Mushroom.

Orlando: We do not have food available for purchase on location, but you’re welcome to bring your own outside food and non-alcoholic beverages. We have plenty of counter space available and please remember to bring any plates, napkins, or cutlery you may need.

Do you allow alcohol?

Our BATL locations are all licensed. We serve a wide range of beer, wine, ciders, coolers and bar rail drinks. Plus, we are currently the only licensed axe throwing facility in Chicago, so come check us out!

Outside alcoholic beverages are not permitted at any BATL location.

Can I bring my own food/drinks?

You can! For a $3.00 plating fee per person, you are welcome to bring food for your guests or have it delivered, so long as it is prepared off-site. Outside desserts such as cakes, pies, and cupcakes are exempt from plating fee. We have plenty of counter space available and please remember to bring any plates, napkins, or cutlery you may need.

Location and Facilities

Is parking available at your locations?

Yes, there’s free but limited parking at most venues, while some venues have pay parking lots nearby. Street parking is also available near all locations. We encourage ride sharing to maximize available spaces.

Are your facilities wheelchair accessible?

All of our locations, with the exception of Hamilton, are accessible.

Are your locations air conditioned?

Our Chicago, Hamilton, Nashville, Niagara Falls, Novi, Ottawa, London, Scottsdale and Stockyards locations have air conditioning in the summer. All other locations have large fans in each throwing area. It can get quite warm during the summer, so dress accordingly, but please remember open-toed shoes are not permitted. Our locations are heated in the winter months.

Is there somewhere that we can sit and eat during our booking?

Yes! Behind most of the arenas at BATL is a spectator area with stools and table space. Coat hooks are also nearby for garment storage. You are also welcome to bring in a few decorations for your event as well! If you have any other questions feel free to speak with one of our Event Planners.

Axe Throwing Event Photos

What if I don’t want my photo posted online?

If you’d like your axe throwing event photos not to be posted or removed from Facebook, then please let us know the details of your group and we’d be happy to assist. If your event has not happened yet, please let us know ahead of time or upon arrival at the venue and we will not take a photo with our camera.

How do I access my group photo?

We try to post all photos from each week at the same time, but sometimes the quality isn’t that great, or it may have just been overlooked. If you can’t find your photo – please let us know the best way to get in touch (and any details about your group size, appearance, organizer name), and we will get back to you with an update as soon as possible.

Safety and Insurance

Is axe throwing safe?

It sure is! We’re incredibly proud of our safety record at BATL and have helped over 400,000 people throw millions of axes without incident since 2006. All throwing takes place under the direct supervision of our experienced coaches, and we have dozens of protective measures in place, such as chain link fencing and a separated spectator area for guests who aren’t throwing.

Can I sign a waiver in advance?

At this time all waivers must be signed on site with our staff witnessing. Signing a waiver takes about 1 minute to fill out digitally.

Are you insured?

All BATL locations are fully insured. We do not disclose further information about our insurance coverage for competitive reasons.

What to Bring

What should I wear?

Our only clothing restriction is that close-toed shoes are required. Otherwise, you’re welcome to wear whatever you’d like. We recommend wearing something comfortable and loose enough to allow for full range of movement, and to avoid wearing high heels.

Can I bring my own axe?

Event participants must use the axes provided by BATL staff. League members can bring their own axes as long as it passes our standards and requirements for play, which means that it must be within 0.25 of a 1.5-pound head in either direction and it must have a wooden handle. The face (blade) must be no longer than 4-5/8". Tomahawks are not permitted as they are a different type of blade.

Who can throw

Can I bring my child or infant?

To participate in axe throwing at BATL, you must be 14 years or older. For more information about age requirements click here. While we don’t have any age restrictions for who can enter BATL locations, there can be a lot of loud noises such as music, axes and cheering that may be unsettling for young children. We require that parents or guardians closely monitor children at all times while within the facility. Your child must be in your immediate care at all times as there are axes being thrown.

Can I throw if I’m pregnant?

That is a personal decision based on your physical condition. We have no rules that prohibit axe throwing by pregnant women and have had league members continue competing through late stages of pregnancy.

What’s the minimum age to participate?

The minimum age required to throw is 14. Our standard waiver needs to be signed by a parent or guardian for any minor (anyone under the age of majority) to participate.

For groups of minors, a parent or guardian needs to stay with the group while they are throwing. No un-waivered minors may be left on BATL premises without their parent or guardian’s supervision.

Are spectators allowed?

Spectators are always welcome at BATL locations for both leagues and private events, and are only charged a fee if they decide to throw an axe.
