BATL Staff Sunday with Tiffany

by Brian Simmons 0 comments

General Pickering

Throwing axes by moonlight, hitting clutches by daylight, never running from a real fight, meet Tiffany from the Backyard Axe Throwing League’s Pickering location.

Before she started working with BATL, she had no idea that people throwing axes for fun was a thing - she was only looking for another part-time gig, but then saw a job posting online and soon had an interview scheduled ... where she managed to somehow cut her finger before it even started, and had to awkwardly ask for a band aid. Classic.

Fast forward nearly a year later, her friendly and easy going attitude makes it all smiles during our private events and Tuesday Black League.  In fact, Tiffany’s now ready to leave the world of retail and sales behind to start running axe throwing events on a regular basis. Hell yeah!  She's stoked.

Aside from axe throwing, she's an awkwardly simple soul with a pretty insane tea collection (think Ramona Flowers listing off tea flavours times a hundred) and you can probably find her on PS4, binge watching on Netflix, at a concert or even at a wrestling event. She's kind of a nerd.  Oh, she's kind of obsessed with Harry Potter, too.  Yer an axe wizard, Tiffany! #batlstaffsunday

Huffington Post Recommends Axe Throwing For Adventure Seekers

General Pickering

The Huffington Post recently recommended a visit to the Backyard Axe Throwing League's Pickering location for all those thrill seekers in the York/ Durham regions of Ontario.  As they put it, "invite your friends to decompress and exhilarate at the same time.  Think darts, but with axes."  You can find the featured article on the Huffington Post website.

BATL Pickering offers a unique way to unwind, through the powers of an axe.  Our location has been servicing the York/ Durham region for nearly 3 years, and offers many ways to get involved with the axe throwing community.  On top of our world-famous weekly leagues, BATL Pickering also offers walk in axe throwing sessions during set times over the weekend and private group bookings (perfectly suited for any type of adult gathering - birthday parties, bachelor and bachelorette parties, corporate team building, or just a night out without the kids!).

If BATL Pickering isn't in your vicinity, then not to worry!  The Backyard Axe Throwing League also has 8 other locations across Canada, so head over to the venue nearest you and find out just how thrilling throwing an axe can be!

Staff Sunday with Tim from Pickering

Meet Tim Roberts, from BATL Pickering in Durham Region. Tim's first experience at the Backyard Axe Throwing League was at a birthday party, and he enjoyed it so much that he joined our Pickering Monday Black axe throwing league - shortly after his Monday night D&D group got too busy with life. Almost two years later he’s still throwing in Monday Black, tying as many matches and playing the Space Jam soundtrack as much as possible while throwing. Oh, and of course he started working here somewhere along the way.

Outside of his love of axe throwing, Tim's biggest passions are loud music, Nintendo, dogs, and professional wrestling. Try saying "New Japan Pro Wrestling" near him and see how long it is until he shuts up.  What can we say?  He's passionate.  And he's part of the family  #batlstaffsunday

Staff Sunday with Dustin from Pickering

by Brian Simmons 0 comments

General Pickering

Meet Dustin, a staff member at our #BATL Pickering location. Dustin was hooked on axe throwing from the very first throw at a friend’s adult birthday party. He then attended two more axe throwing parties, and couldn’t get enough axes in his life.  So, he applied for what started out as a part time gig.

Fast forward a year and a half and Dustin practically lives at the Backyard Axe Throwing League. Whether he’s working as a floor manager or throwing in one of his two leagues (look for his name up on the champions scroll) you are almost guaranteed to run into him at the front door or in an arena giving someone a tip with expert coaching. When Dustin is actually taking time away from BATL, you will find him hiking in the backwoods chasing some sort of nature to photograph when the weather is nice, and in the winter with his local Sledge Hockey team, both as a player and as a part of the executive committee. We're glad he's on our team, too.#batlstaffsunday

BATL Staff Sunday Featuring Kelly

by Brian Simmons 0 comments

General Pickering

It's not a Sunday, but we'd still like you to meet Kelly Moylan. Kelly works and throws at the Backyard Axe Throwing League’s Pickering location, but you can also find him hanging out at Yorkdale throwing in his ‘away’ league.

Coming from a world of software development and university teaching, you can count on him to always be numbering, even when numbers don't need to be numbered.  Kelly took to the #BATL lifestyle quickly, and the step from obsessive hobby to place of employment came naturally. He dreams to be able to go back-2-back with championship wins like his namesake from the Blue Jays, but scraping by will do for now. When not throwing axes, you can find Kelly out on the Curling rink, screaming just as loud as he does during his axe throwing league nights. Glad to have you in the family, Kelly!

Staff Sunday With Patel

General Pickering

Meet Ryan Patel. While master of many nicknames (Little Spoon, Tigerclaw, etc.) he commonly goes by Patel. Patel works out of our BATL Pickering location as a floor manager. Before working at the Backyard Axe Throwing League, Patel was working odd jobs to support his artistic career as a freelance designer in graphic art.

Having never heard of BATL before, Patel was apprehensive about replying to the local ad for the axe throwing coach position for Pickering.  After a few drinks and a creative approach to his application, Patel joined the Pickering crew in opening their doors in 2014. Flash forward 2 years later, Patel is now an accomplished axe thrower, coach and leader in the BATL Pickering community.

When he isn’t busy slamming bullseye’s or looking after his staff, you’re likely to find Patel with his nose in a beer keeping spirits high with the same cheeky charisma that keeps his guests smiling. When you discover him in the wild, you might find him working feverishly on creative projects around Durham Region or rocking out at concerts in the city.  Patel attended college for Digital Art and Animation and spends much of his down time working on projects for friends and clients, not to mention doing a good amount of the handiwork you might see around BATL Pickering. We love you, buddy!  #batlstaffsunday
