by Brian Simmons 0 comments

General Kitchener Ottawa

Not much says Canada like axe throwing and craft beer, which is something that our friends at Brew Donkey picked up on on long ago!  Brew Donkey has been offering group tour packages as a part of their collaborative monthly series that include the Backyard Axe Throwing League’s locations in both Ottawa and Kitchener Ontario.

It brings together the excitement of axe throwing and Local Craft Beer. The tour will feature two behind the scenes tour at local Ottawa breweries, and on bus education session on craft beer and the Ottawa scene, as well as a private experience at BATL with some axe throwing!  This month's session is completely sold out, but keep your eyes peeled to their website for information on the next group outing!

Once arriving at BATL - everybody on the tour will participate together in one of our private group events.  Our private events offered to groups of 6 people, and are perfectly suited to any party / gathering, with a typical duration of 2-2.5 hours and include private coaching from our expert staff before they run you through a group tournament to crown a champion.  Can't wait for the next Brew Donkey tour?  Book your own private event at one of the 9 BATL locations across Canada today!

Riot Axe Visits BATL Kitchener

by Brian Simmons 0 comments

General Kitchener

Fellow National Axe Throwing Federation members Riot Axe (based out of Guelph, Ontario) decided to host their staff party at the Backyard Axe Throwing League’s Kitchener venue this week.  Even professional axe throwers never get tired of the sport, as they came to participate in one of our private group events – which include a round robin tournament, followed by a single elimination playoff.

That doesn't mean that you need to be a professional axe thrower to visit a BATL location near you, though!  Our private axe throwing tournaments are available 7 days a week, and include hands on tutorial and coaching for those that have never thrown an axe before.  In addition to private events, all BATL venues also offer our renowned weekly leagues and public walk in axe throwing sessions.

The NATF was established in early 2016 to service the sport of axe throwing across North America and facilitate inter-league competition amongst member organizations.  Find out more information on NATF membership here.

Celebrating 2 Years of Axe Throwing in Kitchener

by Brian Simmons 0 comments

General Kitchener

They grow up so fast!  2 years ago, we decided to bring axe throwing to the Tri-City area by renovating an old curling club in the heart of Kitchener.  2 years later and thousands of new axe throwers later, we’re happy to be firmly entrenched in the community!  BATL Kitchener has teamed up with local charities, businesses, and even the Kitchener Rangers OHL club to bring our sport to the city and surrounding area.

The Backyard Axe Throwing League offers residents of Waterloo Region many ways to experience the unique thrill of axe throwing for those in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and the surrounding area.  We offer private bookings for groups of 6 and up (which include a full round robin tournament and make the perfect setting for your bachelor party, bachelorette party, adult birthday, or corporate team building function), public walk in axe throwing, and our world famous weekly axe throwing leagues.  Come by BATL Kitchener today and experience axe throwing for yourself.  We can’t wait to see what the next two years have in store.

Staff Sunday with John from Kitchener

General Kitchener

Meet John Dick, or Dr. Dick as he's known in League because of his PhD.  New to Kitchener after finishing school, he didn't have many friends in the city but stumbled across the newly opened Backyard Axe Throwing League location in Kitchener on his way to work one day. Friends in Toronto had raved about an event they had at our Sterling road location, so he decided to try it out - and was instantly hooked, joining an axe throwing league that he has called home for nearly two years.

He quickly realized that the staff at BATL were the people he liked best in his new city, so when the chance to work at BATL came up, he leapt at the opportunity. He's been working with us for a year now, and loving every minute of it. In his own words, "It is rare to find an activity that genuinely appeals to everyone, but that's exactly what BATL does best. I have met a diversity of great people through both the company and through events that I would never have met any other way. I'm lucky to be apart of the BATL family and I'm looking forward to seeing it grow."  We're thrilled to have you as a part of the team, Dr. Dick. #batlstaffsunday

Staff Sunday With Devin from BATL Kitchener

General Kitchener

Meet Devin.  They call him Junior, and he loves it.  Devin was between a rock and a hard place before joining the BATL family, and he's never felt better.  He now spends his days doing what he knows best - throwing sharp shit at wood.  He's been the recipient of our Bowie Award of Excellence (given out to the most outstanding staff member at each BATL location), but his greatest axe related achievement was teaching someone in a wheelchair how to throw and axe - successfully at that.

He one day hopes to win his axe throwing league at BATL Kitchener, but we'll take things one step at a time.  Right, Junior?  We're happy to have you as a part of the BATL family, buddy!

Kitchener-Waterloo's annual Oktoberfest, Canada’s Greatest Bavarian Festival, is fast approaching and the Backyard Axe Throwing League is excited to be a part of it once again!  On Saturday October 8th, BATL will be offering public axe throwing sessions and group events to work off all the calories consumed throughout the course of the weekend.

BATL Kitchener is centrally located in the heart of Kitchener-Waterloo at 69 Agnes St, which is only 3 blocks west of Victoria Park in the Old Granite Club.

Our private axe throwing events start at 11am, 2pm, 5pm, and 8pm with advance booking required. All events start with coaching from our expert staff followed by a group tournament.  The cost is $39.82 plus tax ($45 tax included) per person.  In addition, we’ll be offering public walk-in sessions for people to learn how to throw an axe without participating in a group tournament for $17.70/ hour.   Come on out and throw an axe between October 7 – 15!

Now Hiring Axe Throwing Coaches in Kitchener

by BATL 0 comments

General Kitchener

The Backyard Axe Throwing League is actively seeking coaches and event leaders at our Kitchener location to expand our team in Waterloo Region.

As an axe throwing coach you will be expected to provide our guests with an amazing time - from teaching them how to throw an axe (don't worry if you have no experience, it won't take you long!) to running them through our structured event format in a safe environment.  Our team is a tight-knit family, and we're looking for someone who considers themselves an energetic team player.

BATL Walk-In

Staff Sunday Featuring Jay

by BATL 0 comments

General Kitchener

Meet Jay.  Jay has worked at our #BATL Kitchener location since day one, and we couldn't be happier about it.  She may not be as popular with the members of the Sunday Black axe throwing league that she runs, however, as she is also a member of the league and has won 2 championships.

When not steamrolling opponents, fine tuning her axe throwing trick shots, or doing custom axe paint jobs you can find her doing just about anything else that you can think of.  She is the vocalist in a metal band, a comic writer, artist, and an avid anime fan (^_^).  Like any other good Canadian, the most cost efficient way to win her over is with a bag of ketchup chips - something to keep in mind if you ever end up seeing her around Kitchener.

We love you, Jay!  #batlstaffsunday
