The Home of Axe Throwing

Since Our Backyard Beginnings

We’re BATL, the original Backyard Axe Throwing League.  Our mission is to show people the power of being good to each other, using the axe as a tool to build community inspired by our backyard roots.  We’re immensely proud to have been the first organization in the world to offer an urban venue to experience the thrill of indoor axe throwing in leagues, walk-ins, group parties and team building.

BATL was founded in the backyard of CEO Matt Wilson in 2006.  What started as a personal passion sparked by a camping trip soon spread through word of mouth in Toronto, and today over 1 million people have experienced the thrill of throwing axes at our locations.

The word ‘community’ is used a lot online, but BATL is a community in the most traditional sense of the word.  BATL’s about being good to each other. Our leagues are home to the most amazing, talented and passionate people that you’ll ever have the pleasure to meet.  Thanks to everyone in the BATL Family who’s played a part in making BATL possible.

As the sport of axe throwing has grown, the Backyard Axe Throwing League has played a lead role as a founding member of the National Axe Throwing Federation (NATF), together with other of the most premier urban axe throwing organizations worldwide since its inception in 2016.

BATL is the Home of Axe Throwing

BATL, The Backyard Axe Throwing League, was created in Toronto by our founder, Matt Wilson’s backyard in 2006. What began as a personal hobby sparked by a camping trip soon spread through word of mouth in Toronto, and today over 1 million people have experienced the thrill of axe throwing at BATL’s indoor venues.

A Proud Member of The NATF

The Backyard Axe Throwing League is proud to be a founding member of the National Axe Throwing Federation, which promotes the highest standards in safety, sportsmanship and competitive protocol.

The Axe Throwing Experience

We believe that throwing an epic party should be fun AND simple. That’s why our event packages include 1 – 2.5 hours of throwing depending on your group size, flexible food options and private space to fit your party’s needs.  Trophies and streetwear are available as add-ons for an even more personal touch.

The Best Axe Throwing Facilities

Each venue offers the best facilities for people of all abilities to compete and have fun.  Our axe throwing ‘arenas’ are similar to a cross between a batting cage and bowling alley, with private space for groups of any size, and a music selection that makes every visit amazing.

Expert Axe Throwing Coaches

We have the most talented, fun and friendly individuals that you’ll ever meet. Over 300 coaches and support staff currently work with us across all 13 BATL locations. Each venue offers the best facilities for people of all abilities to compete and have fun.
